When you click

✦Building something together is genuinely thrilling. The ENTJ walks in with a vision that shouldn't be possible on that timeline; the ESTJ converts it into a sequence with owners and dates and starts knocking it down. Two months later you've shipped a thing neither of you could have moved that fast alone.
✦Arguments between you are fast and weirdly clean. You both go straight at the disagreement, you both raise your voice slightly, and then it's finished and you're getting lunch. Nobody sulks. People who witness it assume you've had a falling out and are baffled to find you completely fine.
✦Neither of you has to explain why the work matters. You've each been the person who stayed late fixing what somebody else left broken, and finding another one of those is a relief you don't quite have words for. The trust on competence is instant and total.

When you clash

◇The ENTJ changes direction because a better strategy showed up, six weeks into a plan the ESTJ has already built infrastructure around. The Boss sees adaptation. The Project Manager sees six weeks in the bin, says so, and now you're having the identical fight you had in March.
◇Deputy is not a role that comes naturally to either of you. In any shared project there's an unspoken moment where you both reach for the wheel, and it stays unspoken, which is the trouble. It surfaces later, as one of you making a call the other considered theirs.
◇The ESTJ wants to know what happens Monday. The ENTJ wants to talk about where this sits in three years. Each finds the other's question slightly beside the point, and if it runs long enough the ESTJ starts sounding small-minded and the ENTJ starts sounding like avoidance.

How others see you two

Rooms go quiet when you two start disagreeing, and then everyone realizes this is simply how you talk. Teams describe you as the pair that gets things unstuck and also as slightly exhausting to stand between. There's usually a third person who has learned to translate — telling the ESTJ what the ENTJ actually meant, telling the ENTJ what the schedule actually costs. Friends note that you're each other's only true peer in the group, and that neither of you has ever once said so out loud.

Reaching each other

ENTJ: when you change course, show your work. Thirty seconds of "here's what I learned that moved me" turns a reversal into reasoning, and your friend will follow reasoning anywhere. What they cannot follow is a new answer with no visible cause behind it.
ESTJ: not every plan change is waste. Ask what the new direction buys before defending the old one — sometimes the answer is a great deal. And state the cost out loud in hours and money, because that's a language the ENTJ respects instantly.
Draw the line explicitly and early: what's a joint call, what's yours alone. You're both excellent at authority and terrible with ambiguity about it. Named territory converts your worst friction into your biggest advantage almost overnight.

Type codes only go so far. Two people with the same four letters can attach, argue, and show love in completely different ways — and that part only the people close to you can answer.
