The Project Manager wants the plan on the whiteboard by Friday; the Mastermind already ran the whole thing in their head last Tuesday and didn't mention it. You both love a finished thing, a settled decision, a problem that stays solved. The push and pull is about whose route gets used — not whether you're headed the same way.

When you click

✦Give them a kitchen renovation and watch. The INTJ has already priced three contractors and knows which one is lying. The ESTJ gets them booked, permits filed, and a start date locked before the week's out. Nobody had to have a feelings conversation about it.
✦Neither one flinches at 'that won't work.' A blunt reply lands as information, not insult, so critique moves fast between them. The ESTJ can say a plan's half-baked without softening it, and the INTJ will just go rebuild it — and quietly respect the person who said so.
✦When a deadline collapses at 9pm, this pair is unnervingly calm. The Mastermind reroutes the whole approach in about four minutes; the Project Manager starts making calls and reassigning pieces. They divide it without discussing the division. Everyone else in the group chat just watches it get handled.

When you clash

◇The ESTJ wants to know what we're doing Saturday. The INTJ answers with where this is all going in three years, which is not an answer about Saturday. One hears vagueness dressed as depth; the other hears a person who won't look past next week.
◇Sunday plans are a standoff. Three dinners, a birthday, and a housewarming sound like a good weekend to one of them and like a scheduled illness to the other. The INTJ goes, stays ninety minutes, leaves. The ESTJ takes the early exit personally more often than they admit.
◇Two people who've each already decided is a specific kind of stuck. The INTJ won't argue — they'll just execute their version quietly and present it done. The ESTJ finds out afterward and is furious, less about the outcome than about being routed around. Neither backs down easily.

How others see you two

People assume they're running something together — a company, a committee, the group vacation. Friends bring them problems that need deciding, not problems that need comfort. The running joke is that if you want a real answer you ask one of them, and if you want to be told the answer is stupid you ask both. Coworkers notice the ESTJ does all the talking in meetings and the INTJ says one sentence at the end that changes everything. Nobody's ever seen them lose an argument to a third party.

Reaching each other

ESTJ — when the INTJ goes quiet mid-plan, they're not sulking, they're modeling. Give them the night. The version that comes back in the morning is usually better than whatever you'd have forced through at 11pm, and asking for it costs you nothing.
INTJ — say the plan out loud before you start doing it. Not for approval; for the record. Half of what reads as your partner steamrolling you is really them filling a silence you left. Ten seconds of narration prevents an entire evening of cold war.
Split by timeframe instead of fighting for the wheel. Long arc, strategy, the five-year question — that's the Mastermind's desk. This month, the calendar, the people who need chasing — that's the Project Manager's. Written down once, it ends most of the standoffs before they start.

Type codes only go so far. Two people with the same four letters can attach, argue, and show love in completely different ways — and that part only the people close to you can answer.
