Here's a checklist person sharing space with someone who'd rather take the checklist apart and ask why step four exists. There's real respect underneath — the ESTJ can't argue with a genuinely better idea, and the INTP secretly relies on someone who turns ideas into things that happen. Getting there takes translation, and a little patience on both ends.

When you click

✦The dishwasher dies on a Tuesday. The INTP has the panel off and a theory about the drain pump within the hour; the ESTJ has the model number, the warranty, and a repair slot booked for Thursday as backup. Between them the thing is fixed by dinner, twice over.
✦Arguments here stay weirdly pleasant. Nobody's voice goes up because nobody's ego is in it — they're both just trying to find where the reasoning breaks. The INTP will cheerfully admit they were wrong about the whole premise. The ESTJ finds that refreshing to the point of suspicion.
✦Hand them a board game with a forty-page rulebook. The INTP has already found the loophole in the trading rules; the ESTJ enforces the actual text with the authority of a referee. They will absolutely gang up on the rest of the table, and the rest of the table knows it.

When you clash

◇Deadlines are the recurring fight. The INTP truly believes the tax paperwork will get done, and it will, at 11:52pm on the last night. Watching that timeline unfold is physically uncomfortable for the ESTJ, who filed in February and mentioned it four times since.
◇'Because that's how it's done' is not an answer the Mad Scientist accepts, and being asked to justify every established procedure wears the Project Manager down. Six questions into a system that already works fine, one of them starts to feel undermined and the other has no idea why.
◇The apartment tells the story. Papers in drifts, a half-disassembled speaker on the coffee table, four mugs at various depths — and someone who cannot walk past it without their hands twitching. Tidying it 'as a favor' loses the INTP their entire filing system, which was, they insist, a system.

How others see you two

Coworkers describe them as the odd couple who somehow ship things. People bring the pair a stuck problem specifically because the INTP will find the reason it's stuck and the ESTJ will make sure the fix actually gets deployed. Socially, friends notice one of them handles all the logistics of any group plan while the other contributes a fascinating twenty-minute tangent about airline pricing. There's a shared assumption that the ESTJ is the responsible one — and a smaller group who've realized the INTP quietly calls more of the shots than that.

Reaching each other

ESTJ — swap the order. Lead with the reason, then the request: 'we need it Friday because legal reviews Monday' gets a yes; 'it's due Friday' gets a debate. The INTP isn't resisting you, they're just missing the input that would make the whole thing make sense.
INTP — give a real number when you're asked when. Not 'soon,' not a shrug. A date you actually believe, even a pessimistic one, buys you total freedom in how you get there. Vagueness is what makes them hover, and the hovering is what you hate.
Agree on which surfaces are shared and which are nobody's business. The kitchen counter is common ground; the desk is sovereign territory. Sounds petty written down, works absurdly well in practice, and saves you both from the fight that keeps restarting every Sunday afternoon.

Type codes only go so far. Two people with the same four letters can attach, argue, and show love in completely different ways — and that part only the people close to you can answer.
